These inhabitants had adapted their lifestyles to the climate conditions of the Mohave desert. Utilizing the rare water sources in the area, they managed to create a small area but particularly fertile area around their place of installation. The name of the city itself, after all, Las Vegas, is translated as “meadows”.
In 1855, a group of Mormons settled in the area, but shortly thereafter they had to leave the colony, failing to adapt to the extreme weather conditions.
