Fall exceeding 20 minutes per liter compared to last year is recorded in fuel prices
Nearly 11% has fallen over the last 12 months the price of gasoline in Greece, lightening family budgets and reducing the cost of exit on Easter.
According to the Ministry of Development’s liquid fuel observatory, the average price of unleaded consumption, 95 octane, stood at € 1,744 per liter yesterday, while on the first week of last April was more expensive by about 21 minutes, costing € 1.951 per liter. Market players have commented that prices are partly the result of the “dive” in the international oil market, due to the uncertainty and worries about recession in the US, caused by US President Donald Trump’s tariff policy. They added, however, that the downward trend in Greece is anyway visible for months and is linked to the much more effective cooperation between the Police and the Independent Public Revenue Authority.
Nearby is a fall, nearly 20 minutes, recorded in diesel. Last year, in the first week of April, the cost of a liter of diesel was at € 1,709, and yesterday it was average over 1,512 throughout the territory. Even the unleaded high refinement, 100 octane, has fallen sharply, with the average price being estimated at € 1,965 yesterday, that is, clearly below the “barrier” of 2 euros per liter. A year ago, the pumps of “Kostaras” wrote 2,128 euros per liter.
The lowest price levels were recorded in the two most populous areas of the country, Attica and Thessaloniki, where on Sunday the Simple Unleaded was marginally over 1.7 euros per liter (1,708 euros in Attica and 1,706 euros in Thessaloniki). This means that Easter holidaymakers who buy fuel before departing from the two largest urban centers will have significantly lower travel costs to their destination compared to last year.
The broader profit is also clear for households, with reducing fuel prices as compensation for other costs of spending, where there are still inflationary pressures. It is indicative that ELSTAT wholesale gives the transport category 14.5% of the costs of the average consumer.
