The options offered to users

The optional subscription to Facebook and Instagram has also arrived in Greece, in case someone wants to use these social media without ads.

Users can choose from three different packages, with only one being free. Specifically, if they use free, they will see personalized ads, meaning the current situation where sponsored products appear between posts will prevail. However, if they choose to pay, they won’t see any ads.

If someone registers through a browser, they will pay 9.99 euros, while if they register through iOS or Android they will pay 12.99 euros, due to the fees set by Apple and Google. Until March 1, 2024, the initial subscription covers all linked accounts in a user’s Account Center. However, from 1 March 2024 an additional fee of €6 (for browser registration) and €8 (for iOS or Android registration) will apply for each additional account listed in a user’s Account Center.

It is recalled that the European Union had prohibited Meta from using the personal data of users for targeted advertising, because in this way, the company made money, which it earned from people who did not work on its behalf. Meta therefore announced two-speed users, since those who choose to use the applications for free, officially take into account that the company will extract their data.
