EUR 21.6 billion reached revenue from tourism in 2024, according to the final data announced by the Bank of Greece, up 4.8% compared to 2023.

At the same time, the number of tourists who visited our country in 2024 approached 40.7 million and increased by 12.8% compared to 2023. The Attica Region garnered the largest volume of visits, while the South Aegean Region scored the highest participation in the overall receipts and 20s.

Overnights of non -resident travelers in Greece stood at 240.8 million. In 2024, compared to 236.2 million in 2023, up 1.9%. This is due to the increase in overnight stays of EU27 residents by 4.9%, as the number of overnight stays of other countries decreased by 3.9%.

More specifically, the increase in receipts is due to a rise in 7.1% of the receipts from residents of EU27 countries, which stood at € 11.97 billion, representing 55.4% of total receipts, as well as a 0.6% increase in revenue from residents of the other countries. In 2024, total cruise passengers increased by 22.4% compared to 2023 and amounted to € 1.11 billion.

More specifically, receipts from residents of the euro area countries stood at € 9.5 billion in 2024, increasing 4.5% compared to the previous year, while revenue from residents of EU countries outside the euro area stood at EUR 2.5 billion, up 18.4%.

Regarding the most important countries of origin of travelers, receipts from Germany rose 3.7% and stood at 3.7 billion euros, while receipts from France decreased by 11.6% and stood at € 1.25 billion. The revenue from Italy rose by 13.6%, which stood at € 1.25 billion. Of the other countries, 15.3% were reinforced by US receipts, which stood at € 1.6 billion, while revenue from the United Kingdom decreased by 4.1% and stood at 3.15 billion euros. Finally, the receipts from Russia decreased by 51.5% and stood at € 15.7 million.

Regarding the distribution of non -resident travel expenditure in Greece by travel ratio, the bulk of the receipts is related to travel for personal reasons, whose share of all travel receipts stood at 93.5% in 2024, compared to 94.7% in 2023, while total travel reasons increased by 3.6%.
