This is a new step taken as part of the company’s policy on inactive accounts.

The tech giant said it will take a phased approach, starting with accounts that were “created and never used again”like, for example, that account you created to get some discount code, and never used.

However, if you want to keep all the Google accounts you have active, then a first step is sign in to the account again or send an email from it.

Google stated that the change is due to security reasonsemphasizing that forgotten and unused accounts are more likely to be breached. The reason old accounts are more vulnerable is because they tend to are based on old or reused passwords and two-factor authentication may not be set up.

Once an account is “hacked,” it can be used for anything from identity theft to malicious content and spam.

How to keep your account active

As we said above, account registration may be enough to keep your Google account active for another two years. Google also said that reading or sending an email using Google Drive or watching a YouTube video could help.

Google said that a warning email has already been sent to the accounts that are about to be deleted. In addition, the bbc.com states that those who use the Google Photos, they will be warned that they will have to log into it every two years, for their accounts to be considered active. Thus, they will ensure that the photos and content they have there will not be deleted. Again you will get a warning.

Google accounts created for someone from his work or school will not be affected by the deletion policy, the company said.

Accounts that have purchased a current Google service or subscription, or are used to manage a child’s active account using Google’s Family Link feature, are among those they can be considered actively used and excluded from the deletion policy.

Users should not worry if they have recently logged into their accounts as this means that is considered active and will not be deleted.
