Specifically, based on the data of the Civil Aviation Service and at the country’s 39 airports (24 CAA, 14 FRAPORT GREECE and AIA) passenger traffic in the period January – October 2024 reached 72,805,622, compared to 66,845,641 passengers in the corresponding period period of 2023, i.e. they registered an increase of 8.2%.

Regarding the number of aircraft movements (domestic and international aircraft arrivals and departures) for the ten months of 2024, in all of the country’s 39 airports, whose air traffic control is mainly exercised by the CAA, there was an increase of 6.9% compared to corresponding period of January – October of 2023.

In particular, a total of 546,858 flights were carried out, compared to 511,723 flights in 2023.

“Airports will register a new passenger traffic record in 2024. The passenger traffic of 10 months of 2024 has already exceeded the entire 12 months of 2023” said the CAA Governor, Giorgos Sounatsos.

6.8% increase in passengers at the 24 airports managed by CAA

Passenger traffic at the 24 airports managed by CAA (Heraklion, Kalamata, Alexandroupolis, Limnos, Astypalaia, Ioannina, Chios, Kozani, Kastoria, Karpathos, Kythira, Milos, Skyros, Nea Aghialos, Paros, Syros, Araxos) showed a 6.8% increase in passenger traffic , Naxos, Kalymnos, Ikaria, Kastelorizo, Kasos, Leros, Sitia) during the period January-October 2024, in relation to the corresponding period of 2023.

In particular, according to the statistics, the total number of passengers (international and domestic passenger arrivals and departures) for 10 months 2024 (January-October) amounted to 11,295,034 passengers, compared to 10,573,944 passengers in the corresponding period of 2023.

“Nikos Kazantzakis” – New passenger traffic record with an increase of 8.9%

The state airport of Heraklion “Nikos Kazantzakis” served 1,065,923 passengers in October, i.e. an increase of 8.9% compared to last year, where 979,093 passengers were served in the same month. This performance is a new record for the airport of Crete over time in terms of performance for the month of October.

At the same time, the most significant percentage increases in passenger traffic at the airports managed by the CAA in October 2024 compared to 2023, were recorded at Nea Anchialos airport +160.9%, at Sitia airport +76.9% and at Kalamata airport +42, 7%.
