Tension with police officers and handcuffs to a student
A surprise protest was made by representatives of student associations at Constitution against the forthcoming bill for the establishment of the Non-Governmental Universities. The protesters managed to unfurl banners for a few minutes in front of the monument to the Unknown Soldier.
The police did not have time to react in the first phase, while in the second phase men from the DRASI group pushed the students away and after tension they handcuffed a student who was holding the banner.
The banner of the students calling for tomorrow’s general education rally against the establishment of private universities read “Tomorrow Athens will sink” and was signed by the student associations of Athens who have taken decisions on occupations.
Those students who did not have time to leave were brought to Kypseli Airport in a police van.
