Tourist traffic in the country increased by 17% in the ten months of January-October

More than 30 million tourists visited Greece according to data from the Bank of Greece

Incoming tourist traffic increased by 17% in the ten months of January-October as the number of visitors reached 30.9 million compared to 26.4 million in the corresponding period of 2022.

This development resulted in travel receipts increasing by 14.7% compared to the corresponding period of 2022, as they amounted to 19.612 billion euros. According to the data of the Bank of Greece, this development is due to the increase in receipts from residents of the EU-27 countries by 11.6%, which amounted to 10.9 billion euros, as well as the receipts from residents of the countries outside the EU-27 by 17.5%, which amounted to 8 billion euros.

In more detail, receipts from residents of the euro area countries amounted to 8.8 billion euros, increased by 11.7%, while receipts from residents of the EU-27 countries outside the euro area showed an increase of 11.5 % and amounted to 2.1 billion euros. In particular, receipts from Germany increased by 6.0% to €3.3 billion, while receipts from France increased by 10.8% to €1.4 billion. From the countries outside the EU-27, receipts from the United Kingdom rose by 8.3% to 3.3 billion euros. Receipts from the US increased by 8.0% to €1.2 billion, while those from Russia decreased by 25.0% to €29.9 million.

Regarding incoming tourist traffic through airports, it increased by 12.0%, while that through road border stations by 35.2%. During the period under review, travel traffic from EU-27 countries amounted to 18.7 million travelers, showing an increase of 14.6% compared to the corresponding period in 2022, while travel traffic from non-EU countries -27 increased by 20.8% and amounted to 12.2 million travelers. Travel traffic from euro area countries increased by 10.1%, while travel traffic from EU-27 countries outside the euro area increased by 24.5%.

In particular, travel traffic from Germany increased by 7.1% and reached 4.6 million travelers, while that from France increased by 4.2% and reached 1.8 million travelers. In relation to countries outside the EU-27, travel traffic from the United Kingdom increased by 2.8% to 4.5 million travelers and that from the USA by 30% to 1.3 million travelers. Finally, travel traffic from Russia decreased by 4.6% and amounted to 33 thousand travelers.
