“The minimum wage has not yet been announced – this will be the day after tomorrow, Wednesday, March 26 – And on the internet, an extreme paraphrase has been spread, that the state will supposedly take on taxes the doubles of what will give to an increase. This is obviously and not the case“He said characteristically in ERT’s first program.

As Mr Tsapalos explained, the tax burden is annual, not monthly, and concerns only those who are not covered by tax -free – that is, employees without children. Those who have two or more dependent members will not see any burden.

In detail, today a minimum wage employee pays 138 euros a year. With the forthcoming increase, this amount is expected to reach 244 euros a year – that is, a difference of about 8 euros per month.

“Even if we go to the hypothetical rise scenario of 900 euros, the monthly charge will be around 9.5 euros, not overwhelming.” The Ministry of Finance noted, clarifying that the amounts reproduced on Twitter are unfounded.

What is planned for tax scales

Homer Tsapalos has also announced adjustment to direct tax scales, as – as he said – incomes, and in particular the minimum wage, have increased significantly in recent years (by 30%).

“The tax scales are left behind. We need to adjust them so that there is less withholding in the salary and thus enhanced the income indirectly, ”he said, implying that there will be an announcement at the Thessaloniki International Exhibition next September.

What will happen to public employees

The increase in the minimum wage will also capture salaries in the State, as the spokesman for the Ministry of Finance clarified.

“Since April, whatever the amount increased by the minimum wage in the private sector, the salaries of civil servants will increase. This concerns all the pay scales, ”he said, adding that this is a significant increase after a while, recalling that the latter was given in January 2023.
