They exceeded 47 billion euros in the eleventh month of 2023
Greek exports also moved downwards in November 2023 with their performance in the 11th month being reduced by 7.5% compared to 2022, but exceeding 47 billion, which constitutes the second best performance in their history. The improvement of exports performance of food, fats and oils, and beverages and tobacco partially offset the decline in the performance of important sectors such as industrials. Overall, according to the provisional data of merchandise transactions announced today 09.01.2024 by the Hellenic Statistical Authority and processed by the IEES of SEBE, the value of exports in November 2023 amounted to €4,292.2 million compared to €4,887.8 million in corresponding month of 2022, recording a decrease of 12.2%, i.e. €595.6 million. Imports amounted to €6,953.1 million and the trade deficit to €2,660.9 million, recording a decrease of 19.3% ( i.e. €1,663.9 million) and 28.6% (i.e. €1,068.3 million) respectively.
Analyzing our commodity transactions without petroleum products, exports were down by 10.0%, i.e. €331.8 million and from €3,318.3 million in November 2022 to €2,986.5 million in November 2023 Accordingly, imports decreased by 3.5% (€184.5 million) and amounted to €5,152.3 million, while the trade deficit increased by 7.3% (€147.3 million) and amounted to € 2,165.8 million, it was reported to APE BEE.
According to her data ELSTAT for the period January-November 2023, the value of total exports amounted to €47,195.7 million, reduced by €3,840.3 million (i.e. 7.5%) compared to the corresponding period of 2022 (€51,036.0 million .|table 3). The value of imports decreased by €11,232.0 million (i.e. 12.9%) and from €86,888.8 million last year it rose to €75,656.8 million this year, while the trade deficit decreased by 20.6% (i.e. €7,391.7 million) and amounted to €28,461.1 million. Excluding petroleum products, the changes were milder as exports decreased by only 1.3%, i.e. €425.0 million and amounted to €32,594.1 million, imports decreased by 3.2%, i.e. €1,860.0 million and amounted to €55,847.8 million and the trade deficit decreased by 5.8%, i.e. €1,435.0 million and amounted to € 23,253.7 million
At the sectoral level, food (€573.1 million | 9.0%), machinery and vehicles (€233.1 million | 5.2%), fats and oils (€534.2 million | 63.4%) and beverages and tobacco (€145.2 million | 14.0%) and unclassified products (€420.9 million | 301.6%) saw an increase in exports, while on the contrary industrial products (€1,084.0 million | -13.7%), chemicals (€116.9 million | -2.1%), various industrial (€76.2 million | -2.2%) and raw materials (€321.2 million | -18.1%) recorded a decrease in exports.
In terms of destinations, 57.3% of exports were sent to the 27 EU member states while 42.7% to Third Countries. Without petroleum products, the percentages were 66.8% (EU27) and 33.2% (Third Countries), i.e. €21.8 billion and €10.8 billion respectively.
