According to the decision of the Ministry of Environment and Energy
From February 1, 2025, the new two-zone system of reduced pricing will come into force electricity, according to the decision of the Minister of Environment and Energy, Theodoros Skylakakis. The new system will initially concern consumers who have a meter for “night” electricity or a new smart meter.
The low tariff will be granted in two zones: noon and night with different hours in winter and summer. More specifically, the timetables per zone and season, which will be valid 7 days a week, are as follows:
Winter opening hours, from November to March:
Meridian zone: 12 p.m. – 3 p.m.
Night zone: 2 am – 5 a.m.
Summer opening hours, from April to October:
Meridian Zone: 11 am – 3 p.m.
Night zone: 2 am – 4 a.m.
As stated by the Ministry of the Interior, there will be a legislative provision, so that the existing supply contracts with a two-zone tariff will remain in force incorporating the new schedule. Also, in the event that a consumer does not wish to remain on a dual-zone tariff, he will be able to request the termination of the current supply contract at no cost to him (i.e. at no cost that may be foreseen based on a relevant clause in his existing contract, in the case of early withdrawal) .
DEDDIE has undertaken to complete all the necessary actions, in order for the new reduced pricing hours to apply from the beginning of February.
The transition to the new schedule will happen automatically, without requiring any action on the part of consumers. The same will apply to any possible future changes.
An exception to the application of the above will be approximately 150,000 consumers who are included in the current reduced pricing schedule, due to the specifications of their existing installed meters. These consumers will be informed by letter from the energy supply company they work with.
In order for the new schedule to apply to them as well, if they wish, they should proceed with a request to the DEDDIE. The change will be made at no cost to the consumer.
Otherwise, they will remain included in the reduced pricing schedule as it applies until 31.1.2025.
In addition, consumers who wish to be informed about the new reduced pricing hours can:
– to visit the DEDDIE website: www.deddie.gr
– to use the application “my deddie app” (android & IOS) for mobiles & tablets
– to call 800 400 4000 (toll free)
An announcement from DEDDIE will follow regarding the start of the above information methods.
The Minister of Environment and Energy, Thodoros Skylakakis, said: “The new two-zone system of reduced electricity pricing that we are introducing from the beginning of February is an initiative that comes as a result of this government’s successful policies for the further penetration of Renewable Sources into the energy mix. Households that take advantage of this, consuming energy at times when electricity is cheaper thanks to RES, will see significant reductions in their electricity bills. We continue to design and implement policies that have the interests of consumers at their “core”.
The Deputy Minister of Environment and Energy, Alexandra Sdoukou, noted: “With our initiative to introduce the new two-zone electricity pricing system we are coming to reform an important feature of residential consumer tariffs, whose anachronistic design deprived valuable flexibility and more competitive prices from household demand. Now, with the new reduced consumption zones, we are bringing the cheap prices of RES closer to the real consumption needs of households, synchronizing supply and demand, with a view to optimizing the exploitation of our national energy wealth, which is none other than electricity generation from RES”.
