“The reservations for 2024 are higher than this year,” the minister said
The tourism sector needs specialized staff, so that through optimal services it can lead to the influx of tourists of a higher than usual profile. This was stated, among others, by the Minister of Labor and Social Security, Adonis Georgiades, speaking at an event for the completion of the first cycle of the Workplace Learning Program by the Experimental Vocational Schools, (P.EPAS), which was held a few days ago by the Hellenic-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry in collaboration with the Public Employment Service (D.YP .A.) and the Institute of the Association of Greek Tourist Enterprises (INSETE).
In the context of the event, the high absorption by the tourist market of the first graduates of P.EPAS was highlighted.
As stated in today’s announcement of the chamber, Mr. Georgiadis underlined the high growth rates of tourism market, emphasizing the industry’s need for specialized and well-trained personnel, in order to serve the objective of optimal services provided by tourism businesses that will allow the influx of visitors of a higher than usual profile. He also added that reservations for 2024 are higher than this year. Finally, the minister committed to the continuation of his work, emphasizing the expertise that has been developed through the cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with the Hellenic German Chamber and INSETE.
Subsequently, the commander and chairman of the Board of Directors of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Spyros Protopsaltis, spoke about the importance of developing similar experimental programs, which allow for a more effective connection between vocational education and the needs of the economy and contribute to increasing the employment of young people. At the same time, Mr. Protopsaltis praised the dynamics of the cooperation of the three agencies, as reflected in the results of the project.
The deputy director of the Public Employment Service, Gianna Hormova, highlighted the positive aspects of the fruitful cooperation between the three agencies.
For his part, the general manager and member of the Board of Directors. of the Greek-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dr. Athanasios Kelemis, thanked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. and INSETE for the collaboration that has been going on for several years, underlining the need to staff hotel businesses with appropriately qualified staff who understand the importance of providing high-level services within a dynamically evolving industry.
Athanasia Theodoridou, Head of the General Directorate of Vocational Education and Training, D.Y.P.A., who presented the innovations implemented by the D.Y.P.A.’s Experimental Vocational Schools, which ensure students secure apprenticeships exclusively in hotel 4 and 5 star companies, with pay and full insurance and great job prospects after graduation.
INSETE was represented by the education manager, Magda Peistki, who, referring to the two years that the first cycle of the program lasted, emphasized the excellence of the education provided and the need for the program to continue.
Afterwards, Vocational Training Certificates were awarded to the graduates of the Experimental EPAS of Kalamaki, Heraklion Crete, Patras, Rhodes and Thessaloniki.
