Specifically, the Hellas was named “Best Country, as voted by the readers of the British newspaper The Sun” (Best Country voted by the readers of The Sun), during the annual News UK Travel Awards 2023. The 2nd place in the same category was occupied by the USA and Spain on the 3rd.

The awards ceremony took place last week in Istanbul, with the participation of dozens of executives from the British tourism industry, journalists from The Times and The Sun newspapers, as well as decision-makers.

The EOT was represented by the head of the Foreign Service of the United Kingdom & Ireland, Eleni Skarvelis, who received the Greek award, while making a special reference to the residents of Rhodes and the unique hospitality they offered to visitors to the island during the devastating fire last July.

It is recalled that, according to recent data from the Bank of Greece, inbound travel traffic from United Kingdom during the first 7 months (January-July) of the year, there was a 3.2% increase compared to the corresponding period last year and it reached 2.1 million travelers.
