The new data from the case file
“I told you again: I am innocent. No matter how many times you ask me, I will continue to tell you that I did not kill Babi”the butcher, who is accused of murdering 31-year-old Babis Koutsikos in Medium length.
During his six-hour apology to the interrogator, the 50-year-old fell into contradictions.
In his apology he mentioned on the route that followed, emphasizing: “I did not plan any attack. I was just doing a favor for a friend. I continued to drive the car, because a few days ago it had an issue with the battery and the mechanic who saw it told me that it had to be driven in order for the battery to charge.”
The interrogator asked the accused several times why he did not look for his friend, but also why he pointed his mother to another place from what he now claims he finally left the victim with his car: “When his mother called me, I didn’t know that Babis was missing… I didn’t think it was so important to mention more details. If I had known that he had disappeared, I wouldn’t have reacted like that…”.
According to ERT, the defendant also spoke about the loans he owed to the victim but also about whether he knows that Babi was also owed money by other people. “The loan money they claim I owed is not valid. The only money I had borrowed from Babis was 1,000 euros and, earlier in June, when I also borrowed 6,500 euros from him, which is what you showed me in Facebook messages. There are no other loans other than what I told you. He (the victim) had not told me that other people owed him and I don’t believe he would lend money to a person he didn’t know well. His character was like that… but even if that’s the case, he wouldn’t tell me. I cannot know for myself if such a thing is true…”.
During his apology he was also asked for the victim’s cell phone. In particular, he was asked to explain that at 20:37, when Babis got into his vehicle, it appears that he used his mobile phone to start an internet session, which was interrupted at 23:49. “I didn’t see it here. I didn’t even see if he had his cell phone on him.”he replied.
“It has been proven from the declassification that Babi’s phone was in session during the journey he was with the alleged perpetrator, who is incarcerated in Korydallos prisons. The line was open in an application. This means that Babis had it on, so that someone could listen without the butcher realizing it, who when asked by the investigator and the prosecuting authorities if Babis had his phone, replied: “I don’t know, I didn’t see it” , which means that the session, which Babis had, was not for Babis to speak. He simply had it open, so that the conversation could be heard,” private investigator Giorgos Tsoukalis told ERT.
Another point of the defendant’s apology, which is in the hands of ERT, is causing a sensation. So, according to the words of the accused, Babis had told him that he was looking for treasures: “For two years now, in conversations, Babis had told me that he was looking for treasures, pounds and such things. I already know that he was working with someone from Aetolicus and Agrinio, whose names he had not told me. He also wanted to buy a gold detector for 1,300 euros.”
As far as the case file is concerned, it mentions the existence of a notebook, in which the victim had written down those who owed him money. Specifically, it is reported that the 50-year-old defendant owed him 3,000 euros, some of his cousins 1,500, a friend of his 400 and another friend of his 100 euros.
In her testimony, his cousin confirmed that she is the one mentioned in the notebook and that she had borrowed 1,500 euros from Babi on 2/28/2023 and the “1000” written in the notebook was the balance she owed him. Likewise, his friend admitted that he had received 400 euros from Babis in the summer of 2022.
Finally, everything that is mentioned in the case file and what has been found, has been transferred to the forensic laboratories where they are being examined.
