“She died the day their divorce came out”
The confession made by Vefa Alexiadou, on the “Studio 4” show of ERT, is shocking. An unpopular female singer has gone back to her childhood, talking about the relationship with both of her parents and the constant abuse her mother received from her father.
“At that time, everyone said that ‘we will order the bouzouki from Odysseus.’ So Odysseus was the first but he had a flaw. He drank. And when he would come home and his drunkenness was bad, he would beat my mother and I had a very difficult childhood. I remember my childhood very well and I describe it, even though many people say to me “why did you write this about your father?”. Because I knew my father was an excellent man but he was guilty of the flaw he had,” said Vefa Alexiadou and continued as follows:
“He died of wine in the tavern. He died the day my mother was divorced. We used to leave my house, my mother would take us when we were small children and we would go to stay with my aunt. My father would fall on my mother’s knees and say, “I love you, come home! I want you and I miss you.” We were filming but the third time my mother said, “Ulysses is over, I’m getting a divorce” and she got a divorce. The day the divorce came out, my father went to a tavern, drank too much, fell down and died. Two days later the second World War was declared.”
